I was given some paper from the 1970’s? recently, along with some dishes and other small darkroom items. Two rolls of HP4 were dated use by 1980.

Expecting the paper to be totally useless and fogged I tried some from packets of 10x8 Kodak Bromesko and Bromide WFL2D.

Some sheets were fogged but a few were quite good. The ones from the middle of the pack were the best.

I was thinking of posting the Net Store picture in the Leica R topics as it was taken while testing a 1966 Leicaflex with 50mm Summicron R lens, but now I will post these pictures here. I saw the Morris Minor coming and thought it would look in period with the building. The picture looks as if it was taken in the 60’s instead of 2022.

The abstract octopus picture is in fact a sheet of the paper that was underexposed and dumped in a tray after being developed but not fixed. After some stray light had got to it I saw the octopus appear ! and fixed it. It should have looked like the picture of the group of people (next post) but it was a test print and was three stops underexposed.

All goes to show that very old paper can still work, sometimes.

The octopus picture should have looked like this. Leica Standard with ,35mm Nikkor lens, Rollei 400

Infrared film. This print was on a good sheet of the bromide WFL2D paper.

I don't think I know anything about those papers. I never had luck with old paper from Kodak.

I use same age SG FB papers from Agfa and Ilford. Works fine, no fogging.
