Stein K S Posted June 4, 2022 Share #1 Posted June 4, 2022 Advertisement (gone after registration) Hi Today I tried to put one if my older M9 batteries into my camera. But with no luck. It got «stuck» and it showed to be swollen around its belly to use those words. It is from 1911, the date of purchase of camera. But still strange. Am I the only one experiencing something like this. The battery is now on its way to safe deposit as I have heard that batteries in such condition can be a hazard (learned from the pc world) regards, Stein

pgk Posted June 4, 2022 Share #2 Posted June 4, 2022 This has been discussed on the forum before (try a search) but in any case any swollen Lithium battery should be regarded as being of real concern and, as you are doing, should be disposed of quickly and safely. I have some old M8/9 batteries which are still fine but I do keep an eye on them for any signs of degradation such as swelling.
williamgm Posted June 4, 2022 Share #3 Posted June 4, 2022 If it's from 1911 it is definitely time to replace it.

Ko.Fe. Posted June 5, 2022 Share #7 Posted June 5, 2022 Advertisement (gone after registration) I have original made in China M9 battery which was with M-E 220 in 2016 and I ordered just made in China ones. One took months to deliver. It came swollen. And if I recall correctly, one made in China cheap battery I purchased around 2009 locally for Canon 500D via small reseller was with same defect on delivery. 69xchange Posted June 10, 2022 Share #9 Posted June 10, 2022 This is why I’m against leaving batteries in when storing the camera for longer than normal periods. Also the manual says not to leave battery in the camera and store at 40% charge and charge twice a year for 15 mins. However there is a concern for the internal battery dying which runs the clock and date. If that battery becomes depleted, it may never hold charge again which results in the user setting the time and date every time the battery is changed. So I sent an email inquiry to Leica and this is their response and now I am unsure what to do.. “Good afternoon, I heard back from the technician regarding your battery question and he said you should have a charged (main) battery in the camera when stored for longer. He also stated to charge the main battery periodically.”
