proenca Posted October 23, 2007 Share #41 Â Posted October 23, 2007 Advertisement (gone after registration) very weird... Â I have two WD My Book's ... one 500gb, triple interface that is now almost 1.5 years old.. connected via firewire always ( first to my old PB via FW800 and then FW400 ). Â Once I got it, reformatted to HFS and been a charm ever since. Â Now I got a WD 1TB but I'm using it in RAID mode and connected via FW as well. Reformatted the thing in HFS as well. Â Since Im using paralells, I reformated my old 500gb to FAT32 ( so that bootcamp, well, windows, when it fires, he recognizes the disc. ). Â Had problems recognizing the disc via Fw, changed it to USB and works like a charm. Â My important stuff ( mainly DNGs and other RAW's ) are in the RAID setup. Both work well under mac. Advertisement Posted October 23, 2007 Posted October 23, 2007 Hi proenca, Take a look here Mac users steer clear of Western Digital My Books. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
ericpl Posted October 26, 2007 Share #42 Â Posted October 26, 2007 I'm really sorry to hear about the loss of your image library! I actually have do disagree with some basic assumptions, however. The WD MyBooks come formatted Fat32 but do not have to stay that way, nor do you have to use their software to access them. I bought a 320 GB version last week and just plugged it in, used Disk Utility to reformat at HFS+ (which is the journaled file system used on Macs) and moved my iTunes library and videos all over. Works just fine... I have a feeling you must have gotten a lemon indeed - small consolation when you've been hit hard by an electronic gremlin... Hope you manage to recover those files!
