A garden for children and for vegetables.

Every inch of soil in this mountain Javanese village is used for food

and in this case, also for education.

The village is at the foot of Ijen mountain on the slopes of which is cultivated the  famous Java coffee. Since the early 1700’s

Hi Gelatino. I guess you have been to Kawah Ijen. One of my favorite places in East Java. But one just has to be careful not to encounter an ogre :-). Thank you Gelatino and Brent for an entertaining dialogue Merci.

Carl.

Hi Carl,  apa kabar?

Actually I made  a connection between coffee and Kawah (coffee in Arab is qahwa) not being sure it was relevant or not.

About Kawah Ijen, it is one of my regrets as it was scheduled after the Bromo area, and before the Krakatau, but it was closed so we didn't go there. It is still on my list of  indonesian volcanoes to visit with Batu Tara among so many others.

Hi  Gelatino. Saya baik baik saja dan Anda? I like your association of the words qahwa and kawah ( which means crater). Nice play on words. If ever your travels bring you back to Java, you could arrive in Solo and from there its  a one hour car drive up to our house where we have a guest room. I am building a photo gallery for myself here. Its a great place to find peace and inspiration. I live in the village of Tawangmangu. In a few days I will post a photo of Ijen crater. A good way to get there is to take a train to Ketapang , sleep there and take a driver up to Ijen. Regards. Carl.
