I recently bought a well used Elmarit f:2.8 135mm with the eyes. On both my M4 and M 240, the eye on the right, near the shutter release, is slightly higher than the eye on the left. And when focusing, the image in the viewfinder that moves left and right is slightly below the stationary image. The focusing is spot-on, but it would be better, I think, if the two images were also spot-on. Is this something that can be easily adjusted by the user? And if so, can anyone point me to instructions?

I posted this on another forum by mistake.

Thank you,

I have this lens. Never had to adjust anything on it, but, there is a screw at the bottom that may be loosened and allow the goggle part to move, but I really don’t know if that would work. The goggle has no effect on the location of the rangefinder patch, what you see is the patch misalignment, magnified by the goggle. Might be best to have the lens CLA’d, although the cost may be more than what you paid for the lens😅

I had similar misalignment on the goggles of a 35mm Summicron, and just sent it to DAG for adjustment & CLA. That was several years ago, but he was very prompt, price was reasonable, and the lens came back perfect.

I think that while the goggles do not affect the LOCATION of the rangefinder patch, they do affect the IMAGE inside the patch. If it's the image inside the rangefinder patch, sending it in for adjustment might be indicated.

If I remember on the older ones you can adjust it. Their is a small screw covered with black wax on the top of the eye's you remove the wax and adjust the screw. It's very small and blends in well with the metal. Now on the later ones there is no adjustment, and they seem to stay in alignment a lot better then the older ones.
