On 26 and 27 march the traditional reindeer championships where held in Inari,  which is situated in the north of Finland. Hundreds of specially trained reindeer with their jockeys take part in this competition. The racers stand on skis behind the reindeer, which looks something like this.

On the frozen surface of lake Inari a track is set out, even towing jockeys the reindeer reaches speeds from 60 up to 80 km/h.

The races in Inari ware the last of a series of races, this competition is very popular by the Sami and these two are making sure to have a good spot to watch the races.

As always, not everything goes by plan, these reindeer have lost their jockeys and seem to enjoy that very much.

Their Jockeys took it sportsmanlike though.

Referees kept track of the time the reindeer took to finish the track, quite a difficult task i presume.

A reindeer called Anninthähti, guided by jockey Uula Petteri Somby won the competition.

All photo's where made using a M10 with a 50/2 Summicron or 24/2.8 Elmarit-M on it.
