Shutter Fault Error Message - Leica Monochrom

I haven't used my Leica Monochrom in a long time, but it was stored in a dust and humidity free environment. But, when I try to take a photo, I get an error message that says shutter fault and the camera won't take a photo. I have been able to take a couple of photos, but 90% of the time when I press the shutter, I get a shutter fault error message. I charged the battery overnight and according to the display, the battery is fully charged. Suggestions/advice greatly appreciated.

That probably means that the nylon “fingers” that control the shutter action have seized up. If so you are in luck as the repair may well be not too expensive *. In general, a stored camera should be exercised every few months to prevent problems like this.

Just an outside possibility that might save you a trip to the repair shop. Cameras generally have a small battery permanently fixed inside so that they can remember settings when you take the main battery out to recharge. In normal use the main battery provides a bit of charge to keep this fixed battery topped up. If the camera has not been touched for a long time the internal battery can go flat, which can lead to all sorts of strange behaviour. There is a faint chance that by leaving it for a while, say overnight, with a charged battery inside, this might wake the internal battery up.

No guarantees, but easy to try and doesn't cost anything!

Indeed I was pondering that yesterday when I took my battery out and removed the card to load to my Mac, as to how long I can leave the battery out of the M11 before the settings are lost.

I *think* it will last for a few days without any problems, but asking it to last many months is a tough challenge!
