david strachan Posted March 20, 2022 Share #1  Posted March 20, 2022 Advertisement (gone after registration) I'm sure many of you know the controlled "lab" view used to compare a complex (one dimensional) scene, against various cameras. I sometimes look for amusement, and often end up frustrated, and wonder why such-and-such. For example i might compare the Leica M10 (a good lens is specified), with other cameras..mainly smaller sensor aps-c cameras...inevitably the comparator shows (much) softer scenes (for the Leica) anywhere, over the whole scene, compared to other camera-lens combinations. I don't know why. I've been using the Comparator at DPreview for about 10 years and it's always the same results comparing the best Leicas, and lenses, against other cameras. I know sharpness is not a measurable number, and depends on contrast, and other things...but i do know what looks sharp...and what's not so sharp. What is going on here, please? ... I know it doesn't help, David, but my solution was to give up and seek other sources of amusement.
