The highlands of Papua New Guinea (where I shot this) were so inaccessible, that it wasn't until the 1930s before a non-Papuan, a group of Australian explorers, reached them.  Regarding the pictured wedding party, the practices are the same today as when the Aussies arrived:  The suitor approaches the mother of the bride and negotiates the price of the bride, which is a number of pigs for the family, and one more for the mother of the bride.  When the suitor delivers the pigs, he leaves with his bride.
