John Durant Posted March 14, 2022 Share #1 Posted March 14, 2022 Advertisement (gone after registration) My Q2 image downloads and processing are extremely slow. Using standard card reader and an up-to-date Mac. Any work-around or remedy would be appreciated. JD

jaapv Posted March 14, 2022 Share #2 Posted March 14, 2022 Welcome. I seriously doubt that the problem lies in the camera. We would need far more information about your computer setup to be able to hazard a guess about the cause. What type of Mac? What year? How much RAM? What OS? What postprocessing software? Is the card reader USB 3.0 or USB-c ? Try a few general things to begin with: The first thing that comes to mind is a memory problem in your RAM or too many programs running in the background. Start by running CleanMyMac and shutting down everything that you do not need. There is also the possibility that your HDD is nearly full or extremely fragmented. Get the fastest SD-Card reader to speed -up the transfer. A fast SD-Card and high quality connection cable can make transfers faster too. I used for years a Lexar USB-3 Card reader, the older version of THIS ONE It speeds up the transfer quite a lot If you already use super fast gear, then there may be a problem with your Mac, but im not a Mac specialist so no suggestions for this. P1505 Posted April 2, 2022 Share #5 Posted April 2, 2022 Also what do you define as slow? I shoot a medium format at the images are huge, I use a £4 card reader and the speeds are fine. My expensive reader failed, my cheap one is rock solid If it’s taking more than 5 minutes I just go grab a coffee. If after 20 minutes it’s still going, I’d start to look into why.
