I do a lot of walking -- just a few miles at a time for now.  I'd like to take the CL with me and I'm trying to find a good way to carry it.  I don't like having the camera hanging from a strap around my neck.  I think a waist/hip pack might be the best option for me but the one I have (a Mountainsmith bag) is very heavy and droops over.  What do you use?  Maybe a harness for the camera would be an option as long as the camera doesn't bounce around while I'm walking.  Looking for suggestions.

Thanks

I think it depends on which lens you are going to have on the camera. I have a variety of bags for my CL, plus a waist/bumbag for the summer. My favourite at the moment is the Billingham 72 when I’ve got either the 18mm, or 23mm on the camera.

I use a ThinkTANK Digital Holster 5 for  CL plus a Sigma or Leica standard lens. It has a belt loop which I have not tried. I also have a bigger version for my CL plus Leica telezoom. Both are ideal for my purposes. It is difficult to imagine a much smaller bag without sacrificing protection.

I agree, it depends on the lens. I have carried the CL in a Peak Designs Clip on a backpack shoulder strap, but that was with either the 18mm or the 18-56. I don't have the 18mm now and I hardly use the 18-56, and the 11-23, 35 and 60 are all too big/heavy for the Clip.

For a belt pouch, the camera/lens combination has to be fairly compact. I'm happy using a Billingham Avea 5 on my belt with a Barnack, and the CL and 18mm would be similar in size/weight. Anything larger and I use a shoulder bag across the body - usually a Fogg b-minor.

I don't use neck straps - just a bag and a wrist strap.

I use a Billingham for Leica carried diagonally (and a Peak strap for the camera diagonally as well) or a Lowe Orion Mini bum bag. Both will take the camera, a couple of lenses and all odds and ends.

This manfrotto bag has been really awesome for me. Don’t know what model it is, it doesn’t say on the bag.
it has a second compartment at the bottom where I store my Leica 23 f/2 or Voigtlander 40 f/1.2 or Laowa 9mm f/2.8 depending on what I need. On the top I keep my CL mounted to a sigma 18-50 f/2.8. The 11-23 fits but very tightly and without the hood. The 18-56 fits fine with the hood reversed. I couldn’t find this model online. I might get another one if I find it again.
the only negative is actually a positive. It’s too light and I am afraid someone would just steal it without me noticing it 😂

I walk and cycle a lot,  with a variety of cameras. A Patagonia Atom 8L sling bag does a great job with nearly anything I might carry in way of CL + lens (or multiple lenses). For a bag dedicated to the CL and two/three lenses, the Peak Design Everyday Sling v2 (6L) works very nicely. Both of these bags are great for walking or shorter, more casual bicycle rides. They are very comfortable walking, and the only issue when cycling is that they will sometimes move around a little bit and require you readjust their position.

For longer/more serious cycle rides, the Wotancraft Mini Rider Sling Bag 3.5L has more space than its name implies as it is a more boxy, usable space bag that has a nice compression feature to keep it small when lightly loaded *, and its harness keeps the bag securely in place on the middle-upper part of my back, never flopping around while I ride. Again, a CL with two/three lenses fits nicely, and just the camera and a lens fits nicely too due to the compression feature, and the quick-detach strap that secures it in place pops off almost instantly so you can swing the bag around to your chest and get into and out of it easily.

* With the bag decompressed, I've fit the CL with a neck strap, 10mm and 35mm M-mount lenses, cool weather underlayer shirt, spare battery, wallet, keys, sunglasses in case, and a plastic bag of nuts/chocolates into the MiniRider.

Of course, there are times when I want to be burdened as little as possible, particularly when walking. In those situations, I just fit a Peak Design Leash to the camera with almost any of my lenses, sling it bandolier style onto my body, and go. :D

Thanks to all for your responses.  I went digging through my photo stuff shelves in the closet and found a Case Logic cross body sling strap that connects via the tripod socket.  I had used it years ago withy m4/3 camera and then switched to a different design that isn't sturdy enough for the CL.  I attached the strap, bundled up in hat, neck gator, mittens with hands warmers and the CL with wide zoom and took off for a walk on the beach.  I was only out for about 2 minutes when I discovered that the battery was dead.  So back to the house to swap cameras.  I took my little D-Lux 109 with me instead while the CL battery was charging.  It's a good thing I didn't get to the beach with the CL.  The wind was howling and I felt like I was getting sand blasted.  I probably should have left but I ended up staying for quite awhile.  I just hope I didn't do any damage to this little camera.  I found the strap quite comfortable so when the wind dies down later this afternoon, I'll head back out with the CL.  I'm waiting for the Evoc Hip Pack Capture 7L bag to arrive from Amazon.  It's designed for biking so I'm hoping it will also work well on my walks.

I have to say I use a Peak Design Leash strap on the camera, it is either over my shoulder or around my neck. For small bags I have a tiny Tenba bag, old so probably not sold now it can hold the CL and 3 lenses as long as they are not to big, I also have a PGYTech insert bag from their 20L back pack CL and 2 lenses, both of these have good dividers. I still think having the camera in a bag slows you down.

I've carried the CL with the 18mm while walking the Southwest Coast Path (10-12 miles / day), and will now try it with the 11-23. In "test" walks locally, the bigger lens seems to work fine.
