Some more information as to how you did that I'm sure would be appreciated!

I thought creating some kind of topic about it when I started the repair job but during it I just came clear that it's kind of impossible to repair without DIY solutions. Mine works but it's far away from factory spec. Camera is not leaving my hands so it's not problem.

But if someone wants to try it is doable. Part can be created from aluminium with relatively normal tools and replacing it wasn't a really problem. Hardest part is to take every bit of the M5 apart and then trying to adjust it to accomodate the new part which has different weight than the original. I replaced curtains from leica IIIc and I thought this would be as easy but no way. Still the 1/1000 isn't accurate enough but repeats actuations between 1/800- 1/650 which is fine by me.

I also last week cnc milled new frameline mask since the old one had quite heavy fog inside so my camera is more of an project of mine than a collectors item😁

Ps. I still should have the original part somewhere, if someone needs 3d-model of it.

My mint condition  (s/n 1287703) M5 has the same issue.  I had checked with Sherry Krauter, and she did not a replacement.  Where I work, there is a 3D printer, and I do not mind to have a DIY project to revive my M5.  Where do I start to get a 3D model of this part?  Hintsalae had mentioned about the original part.

Any suggestion is greatly appreciate,

Dennis

I have little knowledge about how accurate or durable 3D prints are nowadays. The part must be exactly same in outer diameter and it can't have any play betweer roller shaft and the new part. If there's play or difference in circumference, the shutter curtain will expose film unevenly.

I still have the broken part, mut since the middle is split I can't measure it accurately.

And as mentioned repairing this part can be done, but without professional equipment it is pretty hard.

Hintsalae,

Thank you for replying to my question.  I will continue to look for a reputable Leica repair technician who can fix my M5 issue.
