orcinus Posted February 16, 2022 Share #1 Posted February 16, 2022 Advertisement (gone after registration) This will probably be known to a lot of people, but... This is your daily reminder to NEVER clean, touch, or wipe your M240 with any kind of IPA-based product - be it wet wipes, or just fingers that recently came into contact with an IPA-based hand sanitizer. The lacquer used to paint-fill the shutter speed wheel markings DISSOLVES in IPA. Very quickly and very strongly. If this happens to you, like it did to me (hand sanitizer, then trying to wipe a smudge off the wheel) stop, wipe your fingers, don't touch the wheel anymore until completely dry. When home, wet a thin piece of toilet paper or tissue with a very small amount of IPA and just dab or very VERY gently wipe the smudged lacquer off the surface. DO NOT press, or you'll dissolve more paint from the recesses. The goal is to wipe what's already dissolved and smudged across the surface. 1
Advertisement Posted February 16, 2022 Posted February 16, 2022 Hi orcinus, Take a look here Isopropanol (IPA) - a public service announcement. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
jaeger Posted February 16, 2022 Share #2 Posted February 16, 2022 What on earth why people believe hand sanitizer as promoted during covid time can kill viruses? I saw my neighbors using bleach to clean grocery and sundry items... we got to love media.
orcinus Posted February 16, 2022 Author Share #3 Posted February 16, 2022 Because IPA and ethanol based sanitizers (70-90%) can, indeed kill viruses, and SARS-CoV2 in particular, as evidenced by numerous studies and papers on the subject. Don't make me paste citations. 4
