Hey ,

I  am sometimes having problem with backlit situations. I mainly use the left eye. And I find it difficult to see everything because with my glasses on , the light leaks between the viewfinder and the glasses.
has anyone an idea on how to avoid this?
sometimes I switch to my right eye but then I feel like loosing control.
i can use the left hand to cover the eye but then other problems arise.
so if anybody can suggest a nice eyepiece would be helpful.

kind regards

peter

Moving between the EVF and LCD is always a problem if you need vision correction for distance or reading (almost everyone with age). Are you using the EVF in EVF extended mode? If so, can you attain good correction without glasses using the diopter adjustment? Perhaps using the EVF as much as possible without glasses will help, maybe keeping your glasses on a tether and dropping them for shooting. Overall, the EVF on the Q2 Monochrom is very good, though it does have a relatively small exit pupil, making head/eye positioning important for a clear and well corrected view. This is even more challenging in daylight, where your pupil is small in response to the bright light. Without glasses, I use the feel of the camera against my eye socket to keep the EVF positioned correctly for the center of my vision. I'm assuming the Q2 uses the same optical system in its EVF and would likely work the same way. Using it closely spaced to your eye without glasses will likely give you the best performance.

Hi Alan,

its less the back and forth. And I don't have the problem in normal weather conditions. But wen the Sun is low and I shoot backlit the reflections I get in the EVF are sometimes that strong that I have to guess what I am doing. I am shooting nevertheless. But I lack the precession that I am usually used to.

Its a first world problem, I know ... But I was thinking that maybe other people have the same problem and came up with a solution that helps.

Yes, understood. The original Sigma Fp with composition through LCD only was difficult if not impossible to use outside in sunlight without the optical viewfinder attached. The Fp-L EVF is supplied with 2 sizes of rubber eyecup. I looked at them today but with the rigid plastic click on attachment piece it is specific to this camera. I'm guessing that is the case with pretty much all dedicated and after market eyecups - it would take a creative craft project to make or adapt one for the Q2, with the camera's spare and elegant design adding to the requirements for adding something on.

Old digital video camcorders and telescope/spotting scope eyepiece eyecups might be a place to scrounge for ideas. We once had so many bins of used, obsolete optical stuff to hunt through for such things but not so much any longer. There are a few threads on this forum seeking a solution to this - one suggests using a 3D printer to make something. Beyond my skill set but sounds like an interesting project.

As a solar observer and photographer, I am never without my isolation cloth - a piece of black polar fleece lined with silver lamé to reflect the heat from the sun. Works very well and who doesn't look great in silver lamé?... but likely too weird and cumbersome for working with a camera (unless it's an old view camera).

If you work out a solution, please let us know.
