Minus the "rich people" thing.  Leica is firmly in the aspirational category.

Nah - not minus the rich people thing. If you can get a new digi Leica you qualify. I know plenty of millionaires and even measly six figure net worth individuals who feel poor but really they just lack perspective, and maybe sometimes prudence.

This is a funny and accurate review.

Signed - a dude who's used (often beater) Leica's for work for 13 + years. I wish I could get over the tactile nature of them but I can't. I truly hate what they stand for in terms of brand appeal, but I do want them to stay afloat, so pandering to rich hobbyists is what they've got to do because they can't stay profitable selling on practical value - they have to add perceived value with the classic tactic of snob appeal. Like Fendi or Burberry - even though you can buy much better, much less expensive (but still not cheap) stuff from small ateliers the world over if you can get past the brand. At least Leica keeps their quality high (usually...) And I don't begrudge those who keep them afloat - (I help, albeit barely) as long as they're not engaging in tacky and obscene conspicuous consumption. In the end I just like using the tools too much.

Leica have a lot of smart folks working for them. I'm not sure I'd put their designers as higher than their marketers.

I'll never forget many years ago I was dating a woman who's father liked to take family snaps. I was using an M6/7 at the time, and she mentioned that her father always costed Leica cameras. So on a big anniversary trip with her family to Italy, his kids pitched in to buy him a used M6 and 35mm lens. He was blown away, but for the rest of the trip he dutifully wore the Leica around his neck but continued to take all of his pictures with a cheap point and shoot. I'm pretty sure that camera spent the rest of it's life only being pulled out and fondled on occasion.

No camera will make you a better photographer or even better photographs. It's all about what you are comfortable with and what tools one needs to make their vision come to life. Otherwise it's just a love of luxury goods and tech, though there's nothing wrong with that and what keeps Leica alive. Very few actual working photographers are buying $14k 35mm APO's I can tell you that.

Very few actual working photographers are buying $14k 35mm APO's I can tell you that. !!!!!  I am sure they are not, as it is more than twice the market price

Thats about it...lol...

But unlike Rolex..which is still all mechanical..and will be usable/fixable for generations..

...in 10 to 20 years..M will probably be undesirable & obsolete...or a doorstop..

I would not be sure about Rolex in that 20 year timeframe - spare parts ........
