Mrs. Lélia and Mister Sebastiao

Taking a walk with a wonderful couple that has accomplished so much.

Words that Salgado told me that stick to my mind.

« Carl, last year was a terrible year for me. A year of time spent on setting up exhibitions,

of meetings….. A terrible year because I did not take photos.»

Voilà inspiring words for me.

And Lélia is a very creative person and dedicated who supports Salgado.

Leica M6. Tri-x or HP5 ( must look at the negatives). 28mm Summicron. Asph.

OR120, Thank you so much for your reply and for taking time to look at my web site. I am now working on a personal photo story. Images taken at the local traditional market. If you have a moment here is a link to the work in progress: www.eyeswideopengallery.com

Very much enjoyed looking at [ www.eyeswideopengallery.com ] - For me - your words that accompany each photo package provide greater depth to your images.

Thanks for this. I will put more efforts of writing stories to accompany the images. Yes, as the saying goes: « a picture is worth a thousand words» but adding text to these unwritten 1000 words can bring a photo to another level. Have a nice day.

Sebastiao Salgado has compiled one of the most impressive and influential bodies of work by any photographer in the last 50 years. He is truly one of the greats and a continuing source of inspiration.

Looking through your own website I see a strong similarity in approach, style and dedication. You have both documented the human condition masterfully. I hope members of this forum will take the time to look.

Thanks for posting the photos and information.  On one of my bookshelves is Salgado's mighty tome 'Exodus' - a continuing source of inspiration.  Will now go and look at your websites.

Thank you Keith. Salgado is inspiring indeed. I ordered his Kuwait book about the oil fields on fire. He told me he shot with Leica R loaded with 3200 asa ( Tmax I think). Ah film! Stunning images. Not only is he a very good photographer  but he uses a lot of physical energy to accomplish his work.

Thanks for looking at my web site. I also have a web site that I put together for the photo gallery I am building: www.eyeswideopengallery.com

Ouff  Brent. Your words give me solace and touch me deeply. I had the privilege to spend some time with Sebastiao and his family. I do feel a strong connection with him. His book « the workers» changed my photography profoundly. Take care.

P.s. Your series NO DIRECTION KNOWN contains some beautiful and nicely composed images.
