Braaamer Posted January 23, 2022 Share #1  Posted January 23, 2022 Advertisement (gone after registration) Dear all, I am brand new to Leica with my recent purchase of an M3 from 1963 and a Summicron 50 from 1959. Plus a Leicameter MR. Everything will soon ship for a serious CLA. But I have one question that I would appreciate an answer to. The image shows how I can easily unscrew the lens barrel by turning the aperture ring to 2 and continue. There is hardly any resistance. In another forum some said this is normal so you can mount that lens barrel onto other optical devices. Is that true? Thanks for helping a novice and layman who tries to get into the Leica world. Erik Welcome, dear visitor! Advertisement Posted January 23, 2022 Posted January 23, 2022 Hi Braaamer, Take a look here Summicron 50 from 1959 - lens barrel unscrews easily. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!

a.noctilux Posted January 23, 2022 Share #4 Â Posted January 23, 2022 Â Erik, You can tighten when screwed in with a bit more force at the end of screwing. the number in the mount ( we can see here ) must match the lens front serial number, indicating the mount can be unscrewed from optical cell. When correctly screwed in, the aperture change must NOT unscrew the lens optical cell.

Braaamer Posted January 23, 2022 Author Share #6  Posted January 23, 2022 Thank you both, the S/Ns are matching, and I will have them look at it during the CLA of the whole set. Can't wait to take photographs with it, but right now it would probably burn film since the exposure times also need to be adjusted by the A after C and L. So right now I am repracticing my film skills shooting an old Kodak Retina Reflex IV from my dad.  🙂
