Nitnaros Posted September 7, 2007 Share #1 Posted September 7, 2007 Advertisement (gone after registration) Is anybody aware of a raw processing software package that has adapted its processing of M8 DNG raw files to the usage of the (Leica) IR-cut filters? RawDeveloper was mentioning "new" processing for M8 DNG's with IR-cut filters in Jan-07, but their June release of RD did not mention it. Aperture (which I am using) makes no differentiation w/without IR-cut filter. Maybe one of the other suspects (ACR, C1) has -? Or maybe a third-party offers profiles for IR-cut filter usage -? Regards, Peter Yes, there are IR specific ICC profiles available for use with RAW Developer that can be downloaded here: http://www.iridientdigital.com/downloads/LeicaM8_Test_ProfilesIR.zip The recent RAW Developer 1.7 release also allows for direct use of the embedded DNG color matrix metadata from the M8 DNG files. I believe with the most recent firmware releases these color matrix values have been tuned for use with IR filters as well. The lastest version of RAW Developer can be downloaded here: http://www.iridientdigital.com/products/rawdeveloper_download.html Use of the DNG color matrix metadata instead of ICC profiles is now the default setup for the M8 and most users surveyed seemed to slightly prefer the simple color matrix color rendering results over the previous ICC profiles. gesper Posted October 2, 2007 Share #3 Posted October 2, 2007 Yes. C1 has a profile for M8 with UV/IR

Brian Griffith Iridient Digital I am no expert like Brian, far from, but I have noticed that the first time a Leica DNG (with UV/IR) is imported in Lightroom, you see the picture change from having an ugly blue cast to the normal, slightly warmish, rendering that Lightroom further uses. Is that a form of the DNG use described?

Is that a form of the DNG use described? I don't know much about how Lightroom specifically handles color rendering, though I do know it is based on the DNG style metadata (interpolation of 2 color transform matrix values) color rendering and does not support ICC camera profiles. I would guess the shift form blue cast to a warmer rendering may be due to some white balance correction being performed. Lightroom does allow in some cases a choice between its own internel defaults (generally labeled something like "ACR 2.4") and those of the DNG file itself under the "Profile" popup of the Camera Calibration section. Off hand I believe the Lightroom default with the M8 is to use ACR defaults (not the actual matrix values stored in the DNG file), but that may have changed in recent versions. Early firmware releases of the M8 definitely did not have ideal color matrix metadata stored in the DNG files so early on it was best to ignore the DNG values themselves. RAW Developer uses a similar setup for the DNG matrix metadata where there's an option of either a default set of values or those actually stored in the DNG files themselves. This choice can be made from the "Input Profile" popup menu and by default to avoid issues with early firmware DNG files a default set of matrix values (from recent firmware M8 files) are used.
