Aram Langhans Posted January 21, 2022 Share #1 Posted January 21, 2022 Advertisement (gone after registration) First, I love the camera. It has become my main shooting device. Easy to use, simple design and function. If I made a list of all I like, it would take up a lot of room. But no camera is perfect and in the 1.5 years I have been using it there are a few things I would like see changed either in a Q3 or firmware fixes to the Q2, as I blew my wad on this and probably would not be able to swing a Q3. So, here is my short list and I hope someone at Leica is reading this. 1. Be able to use 30s exposure at all ISOs. Not sure if this is a heat thing or just Leica saying I-know-better-than-you-and-don’t-want-you-to-even-try thing. Sometimes even a lower quality photo is better than no photo at all. 2. Be able to turn off long exposure noise compensation. This may be for the same reasons. 3. Improved battery life. I can get maybe 150 shots and that is without chimping. This is true for both my batteries. 4. Improve lens performance. This sounds strange as this camera produces some of the sharpest photos I have ever seen, but it shows pronounced coma in the corners and edges when using it for astrophotography. I have had two Q2s. I sent the first one back because of the coma thinking I had a bad lens, but the second one does the same thing. What are the odds of two bad lenses from Leica? 5. A little bit longer spring action on the SD card so I can grip it easier when I have the Really Right Stuff angle plate on the camera. I put a tape flap on the end of my card so I can grab it to pull it out, but the tape does not last too long. So, these the things I can remember. There may be one or two more but they would be minor. Does anybody have any more or do any of these fit your experiences? Now, I will grab my almost perfect Q2 and take some photos. nicci78 Posted January 21, 2022 Share #2 Posted January 21, 2022 (edited) Q2 is not a real 28mm lens. it is a 26mm over a slightly bigger than full frame 50MP sensor, permanently cropped at 28mm with 47MP 24x36. So corners and edges are enhanced via software corrections and cropping. Hence some visual defaults may appear. better 28mm do exist : APO-Summicron-SL 28mm or Summilux-M 28mm. No crop no software improvements other than vignette. Edited January 21, 2022 by nicci78

I still use M240 and consider prints, even bigger than "natural" size for M240, quite better than prints from Q2.

I carry a "automotive fuse puller" that reaches the edge of the memory card and allows for easy extraction. Also a napkin held between thumb and forefinger provides better grip.
AndrewDD Posted January 28, 2022 Share #5 Posted January 28, 2022 Put the video button back on it! If I had noticed it had been removed (I bought it mail order during lockdown) I would never have bought it. By the way, I get vastly more photos than that, up to 1000. I started getting much better battery life when I bought a new, after SD card (256GB Extreme Pro)

I would guess that this is a specific problem with very long exposure and low light conditions as I never heard of that. From my experience as underwater photographer I may throw in another possible cause: the cold/er temp at night and the heating up sensor because of long exposure time leading to - even almost invisible - fogging in the corners of the lens creating halos. You may check the astro photography tread and it's users to get more informations about that and a possible solution. However, the use of the Q2 for astro photography is probably not the one she was designed for and that lead to the problems you have. Chris
