I run a Mac Mini with 16Gb Ram i7 processor so I should be good for CPU power, but have been poking around to see what software is out there that is Mac and user friendly. Came across this in the 'APP' store: Gentlemen Coders 'RAW Power' photo editor. Its $60.00 Can...Anyone have any experience with the app? Any suggestions for a (RAW) beginner, lol. Cheers, Jim W. For a beginner I recommend ON1, but there is Lightroom, Affinity, Capture !, DXO, Photoshop Elements, etc. Use the online tutorials provided. All of those have trial versions, so you can pick one that works for you.In the first year or so, stick to one editor and get to know it well. If you start jumping from one to the other you will never get optimal results. Your monitor is far more important than your computer . Get one designed for photo editing, like one of these and make sure it is full Adobe RGB and IPS. I am not a. fan of 4K screens for editing, but YMMV. Personally I prefer a twin 24" screen setup over a single 27" one. Any screen must be calibrated <or self-calibrating>, using for instance a Color Spyder , otherwise you will struggle getting decent colour out of your images. There is time enough to experiment with the outlier apps later, after you become proficient in postprocessing.. Link to post Share on other sites More sharing options...

Jakfrost Posted January 21, 2022 Author Share #4 Posted January 21, 2022 Thanks guys, appreciate the feedback. I'm came from Mamiya 6...square negs...a few years ago, came to digital kicking. Tried the earliest version of Photoshop, nearly drowned in it. Decided .jpg was going to have to be 'good enough'. I'm all Apple here at home, and have been using my phone for images until the Q2, ( missing my old M4 and 4 primes ), which by the way is still enroute to me, so not even hands on yet. Retired now so lots to time to explore my hobby at a new level and post processing is something I would like to be able to utilize with reasonable skill. Sooo, trying to avoid the deep end agin. If you are using Apple Photos as you primary image hub, this app will be sufficient for all those who don't shoot 1k images per shooting day, who don't think in projects, and who don't need the latest shiny healing tools, layers, AI etc.. Other than that, RAW Power is as good as it gets for a plugin, and it's deeper than some would anticipate. Much recommended. Link to post Share on other sites More sharing options...

Apple Photos: my main gripe with it is that I cannot delete from my computer...🙄 IMO Apple has never managed to make a fully capable editing program. Or maybe they have no interest to do so.
