Tobphoto Posted January 15, 2022 Share #1 Posted January 15, 2022 Advertisement (gone after registration) Not really a question more of a vent to be honest. Bought my Q2 in December 2020 and very happy in many ways but have not been thrilled with the reliability and the servicing. I was on a trip in September last year and the camera PASM mode stopped working with effectively the shutter speed stuck on A regardless of where the dial was moved to. Fortunately aperture mode is my preferred mode but it would also randomly switch to manual mode, totally overexposed, and I’d have to turn the camera off and on to stop it. I went to my local Leica store and it was sent off to Germany and had some electronics replaced. When it returned I then didn’t use it for a few weeks (other than to check it all worked again) and then picked it up to use it, the EVF flickered almost like interference and then stopped working altogether. The camera is now in Germany again, hopefully to be fixed but it’s generally leaving a slightly sour taste. The most expensive camera I have ever owned by several multiples and I’ve been unable to use it for half the time I’ve owned it. Hopefully no more issues but let’s see. Interested to know if I am just unlucky or others have had issues.
Advertisement Posted January 15, 2022 Posted January 15, 2022 Hi Tobphoto, Take a look here Q2 build quality/Leica reliability. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
jaapv Posted January 15, 2022 Share #2 Posted January 15, 2022 I feel for you. However, no machine is failure-proof, unfortunately, regardless of price. There are few reports of Q failures and lightning appears to have struck twice in your case. Let’s hope you’ll have many years of reliable enjoyment after this episode.
Marc B-C Posted January 15, 2022 Share #3 Posted January 15, 2022 No issues with my (third - purchased March 21) Q2, although the first two (Feb 21) were returned immediately due to an over abundance of hot pixels. I do recall the salesman telling me that the loss / absence of staff at Leica during the various lockdown issues may have compromised quality. So far #3 is perfect. @jaapv is correct and I would also add that if reliability and quality were poor, it would not be the commercial success for Leica it is.
