I seem to be reading mixed reviews as to the auto white balance, auto ISO, high ISO ceilings and buggy firmware in the Leica M11.

Might it be that the firmware is premature with latest cameras and still be in need of several tweeks?

As some of you state the 50mm APO lags behind in comparison to the Sony 50mm gm although Leica claims the 50mm APO is a perfect lens and the best lens Leica has ever made?

When the 50 APO was released *TEN YEARS AGO*, Leica’s claims about the lens being arguably the best 50 mm lens from an optical standpoint were pretty much true. But a lot of lens design and manufacturing advances have been made over the past decade. I don’t think there is any doubt that purely from an optical point of view, the 50 GM sets a new standard.  Mind you, I still use my 50 APO more often than the 50 GM, and I love all my Leica bits, but math is math.

This is true. The 50mm APO set a new standard, but now even the 50SL Lux is sharper and more corrected. The SL primes set a new standard for Leica just a few years ago.

...yes, the SL primes are incredible, and the SL Summicrons (I had the SL 50 Summicron) are presumably sharper and more corrected than the 50SL Lux.  For things like Landscapes, they're wonderful.

For Portraits, however, I often find such lenses too sharp and with too high contrast & acuity to be naturally pleasing. I know there are re-releases like the 50 Noctilux 1.2, but it's not clear to me yet if that is a solution in adding a filmic "softness" to Portraits, or whether such a lens would mainly be adding just out-of-focus "blur"?
