hi all:

am a little confuse about white balance on these programs.

seems to hear comments that C1 white balance give the nicest skin tones and usually the result most people are happy with. i am assuming this is done with "auto" white balance? with 'auto' white balance, i am sure that there are differences between all programs.

my questions is this:

what if all the programs are adjusted manually? Say 3100K and +7 Tint.

will all these programs produce the same colors/effects. will they look the same on the same JPEG or RAW file? if not why?

curious coz i am only using C1.

thanks.

I don't think it has anything to do with the WB. It is the color profiles that are different.

A WB of 5000 Kelvin should be the same from one program to another.

Its hould but it is not in my experience. Also if you select 5000K in camera or select 5000k in a specific converter you can get slightly different results.

And, funny as it is, if you shoot with a d200 and a M8 in the same light you will have to choose different Kelvin in the raw converter if you want to get the same colors. Funny.

Interestingly if you use the same eyes to view the computer image that you used to take the photograph you can envision the desired result as you did in the camera.

All of the the C1, lightroom, CS3 programmes are different but your eyes are the same.

How did you imagine it would appear as a finished picture? Then tune in with whatever RAW programme (they all have different advantages/disadvantages) and make it happen.

Photography is all about personal feeling; what it feels like to you.
