I would like to see another pole asking the age when someone first began using a Leica camera.

When I was 14 years old, I found a Leica IIIb in a clothes cabinet at home, while searching the house for potential Christmas presents. That was my introduction to photography, a 135mm Elmar and 35mm Jupiter followed and I have never looked back. The lenses are of course long gone, but I still own the camera - it is in a pretty sorry state and beyond economical repair, having been through hell and back.

Best,

Jan

TO THE MODERATORS:

Indeed a great idea above: Pleeeeeease submit an additional poll where everyone interested can submit his/ her AGE when STARTED and the number of years of taking photographs with LEICA-cameras.

With me: I began at the age of 22 (with a then brandnew LEICA M 4) and I use LEICA cameras - and nothing else to be honest - for 38 years.

AND I hope for quite a few more to come, LEICAS and years that is.

Best

Well the first time I held a Leica was in 1972, a used M3 in the camera store I worked in.

I barrowed it for the weekend to check it out. I shot 3 rolls of film with it and developed them on sunday night.

When I got to work the next day I asked the owner what he wanted for the camera and 50mm Summicron.

I would like to say I still have it but the M3 I now own is not the same one. I kicked myself in the arss from the day I sold that first M3 until I bought another.

Yes. I was wondering about that, too. I've owned and used Leica M's since 1966 when I was a mere lad of 18. 'Bought with money earned freelancing for local newspaper. Great fun. My first post on L-camera forum. Many thanks, John Fulton, Fort Worth.:)

Hey Andy, i've a question.

If I vote say today, it's as if i'm cheating.

The reason is that in approx 2 months time, i'll fall under another age group.

So, should I vote in the bracket that i'm today or in the next age bracket :( ?

Please say..." Vote as you are today"...it makes me feel better...honestly :)

It's easy to get the impression that Leica users are an aging demographic...Yet the younger cohorts are seemingly well represented!

The poll is entitled Average Age of L-Forum users. If you get any impression from it as regards the demographic of Leica users as a whole, it's entirely un-reliable.

I would like to see another pole asking the age when someone first began using a Leica camera.

Well it'd have to have a choice of "not yet begun" ;) And that would beget a third pole (sic) entitled "How long have you been bashing Leica on internet forums?" :D

Vote today - it will make you feel so much better. (If I'd thought about it longer, I'd have made the split so that I fell at the upper end of a lower section, rather than the lower end of an upper one :) )

Is that all? Seems so much longer :D

Well, you cvould also poll for the number of years an individual has been using Leicas that he / she owned.

I'll start: 62 years (IIIc in 1945 to M7 at present)

Well, I'd like to join you. Leica II with Hektor 2.5/50 from my father. In 1956 I purchased my first Leica with money I earned (IIIf/50 collapsible Summicron). Have graduated through nearly all Leica versions to M8's in 2007. Started SLR's with Nikon F and onwards up to F5. Also use R8 and R9 but no DMR.

Leicas - as nearly all forum members will attest to - is an expensive, addictive but also a rewarding hobby (for me). Over 50 thousand slides attest to this nearly life long addiction and many thousands of b&w shots fill boxes with pictures and files with negatives, mostly developed at home.

My son is following this addiction as well, having received M5, M6, various lenses and a Hasselblad 2003 FCW etc.from me as encouragement.

P.S. I will be 77 this month.

Teddy
