Solution for DMR files in Aperture......DMR2M8

I'm afraid that they all get imported as "Usupported image format"

Hmm, well, I'll take a look at that as soon as I get a copy of Leopard. That's probably a few weeks away though. Looks like they're being a bit more picky than previously as regards what fields get looked at to decide what is and is not a M8 image.

I would guess that happens if try to open the file in Preview as well?

Preview blows highlights with the classic magenta look on a straight DMR file.

With a CF version, it opens fine.

So, converting the internal name to M8 still works, but Eoin's RAW.plist hack is no more.

This one was converted in CF and then processed in Aperture under 10.5

Andy,

I've read elsewhere that the location of the raw.plist has been changed within Leopard.

Have a look for it in /System/Library/CoreServices/RawCamera.bundle/Contents/Resources/Raw.plist.

You should be able to re hack it as before.......but don't forget to make a backup before you do!.

Perhaps you might be so good as to email me the file so as I can have a look and see if anything has been changed re the M8's matrix values.

Thanks

Hi Andy,

I'm sorry for the delay in getting to this, not my fault, Apple didn't supply my new MBP with Leopard and I've only gotten the upgrade yesterday evening.

Anyway the reason the hack no longer works is Apple have changed the way they read the camera name, I don't understand it yet but basically we were using Leica Camera AG-R8 - Digital Back DMR in the old hack. This just needs to be changed to Leica R8 - Digital Back DMR and you're back in business.

Of course you'll need to keep using Sandy's Corner fix but you won't have to overwrite the camera name and use the M8 matrix values any longer.

Hope this gets you going again :D :D !

I've attached the two modified entries as text files, remember the location of the raw.plist file has changed as in my post above. When I get more time I'll look and see what these new extra keys are in the leopard profiles.

Regards

Eoin

Works extremely well, Eoin.

Many thanks :)

No PS adjustments here, just straight from Aperture. I'd usually work at something like this much more. But you can see that the highlights issue has gone. File shows as an R8 DMR file in Aperture, of course.

Nice one Andy, I'm glad it worked for you. There is an improvement in aperture with the Leopard core image support and new matrix specific M8 profiles as well. I'll have a try adding in some of the new settings over the week or so and let you know.

Enjoy!;)

I've posted a new version of DMR2M8, 0.9.1.7, at the usual place:

SourceForge.net: CornerFix

This incorporates a number of bug fixes from DMR2M8's CornerFix "cousin". I don't actually think that any of the bugs would impact on the DMR to M8 conversion functionality, but in case someone is using it in a way I haven't thought of.....
