Thanks for your help! However, as mentioned earlier in this thread:-

"...There is one problem. My camera is not a Leica! It is the Panasonic Lumix S1R."

😟

not sure you have to worry about it too much. I think the latest changes came for compatibly with some Sl2 camera body

Still, it is always nice to have the latest software updates.

How would you feel if you purchased a Windows or Mac computer and couldn't update to the latest version?

All Leica SL lenses are sold as part of the "L-Mount Alliance". This implies that you can use them to their FULL capability on an "L-Mount Alliance" body. Why is Leica acting in this arrogant manner and only catering to Leica bodies? And why is the "L-Mount Alliance" tolerating this behavior?

I think the Lumix S1R is THE best L-Mount body still, regardless of price. And the best lenses are the Leica SL lenses. Why can't I combine the two? Isn't that the point of this so-called "alliance"???

😠

well you are using a Panasonic camera so the question should go to Panasonic  on how to update the lenses.

If the latest FW change are specific the SL2 bodies I don't see the point you are making it.

In you eyes the Panasonic camera is the best. It does have some more video options that are nice, but the sensor glad of the SL2 makes all lenses perform better on a SL2 body.

To address your points, this isn’t an official Leica forum, so please don’t take a lack of response here or other user suggestions as arrogance on the company’s behalf.  That said, Leica does have a very poor website and it has been going through many changes lately.  I’d politely suggest you contact Leica support to obtain the latest firmware files, which you should be able to install from your Panasonic camera body.  They are generally very responsive and helpful and I’ve always been able to receive an answer over email within a day or two at most (except for holidays!).  Good luck.

You may find the contact information for your region on this page: https://leica-camera.com/en-US/contact

  • 1 year later...

My update process fails somehow. Or does not initiate.

  1. Downloaded the SLLens09.plf file, put it onto an SD and inserted it to the camera
  2. Attached my VARIO-ELMAR-SL 1:5-6.3/100-400 (same problem with my LEICA SUMMICRON-SL 1:2/50 ASPH btw)
  3. Switching camera on and checking for firmware version. It says 1.0
  4. Start the lens firmware update
  5. I only see the symbol (two red arrows forming a circle) for a fraction of a second. Then nothing.

When I do that with my VARIO-ELMARIT-SL 1:2.8-4/24–90 ASPH, it says Firmware 2.2 and when initiating the update process it says "Lens has same firmware version as on the SD card". So that works as expected. But not with the other two.

Anyone with a clue? Thnx and regards!

SanPedro,

You might consider doing the following:

1.  First check to see if you have the latest camera firmware for your camera installed.  You may not know, but all SL firmware now incorporates all the SL lenses update firmware into one camera firmware update.  You do not need to update the lens firmware separately.

Failing that, try this.

1.  Download  SD Card Formatter a free APP to format your SD card.  This free firmware reformats your SD card to factory specs.

2.  After reformatting your SD card, then put it in your camera (with the latest firmware installed) and then format your SD card in camera.

3.  Remove the SD card and then add the SL lens firmware into the root (main) directory NOT a subdirectory on the SD card.

4.  Insert the SD card in your camera and then try installation of the firmware with lens attached.

Most likely your 24-90 works because the firmware is current in the camera.

Last, failing all that...head to your local Leica Store and let them update your camera and lens firmware.

Hope this helps.

r/ Mark

PS.  Not matter what, you should use SD Card Formatter to reformat your SD card before you attempt any future firmware updates for the camera. It only takes one bit to screw up the firmware.

Thank you Mark for your very precise instructions. But no cigar. Off to Zurich. Poking the mothership to give me hand.

Best, Manuel

SanPedro,  When all else fails...just beam up to the Leica mothership and all will be good....r/ Mark

PS...When the mothership fixes your camera/lens firmware issue, maybe you will send me a PM and let me know how it was resolved for you.  Thank you.
