NZDavid Posted November 20, 2021 Share #1 Posted November 20, 2021 Advertisement (gone after registration) The Blood Micro Moon is caused by a partial lunar eclipse, making the Moon’s surface appear red. The last such event apparently occurred 800 years ago in NZ. The star cluster beneath the Moon and above the poplar is Matariki, aka the Pleiades or Seven Sisters. When they first appear above the horizon in midwinter, they are heralded as the start of the Maori New Year — from next year, a public holiday in NZ.
