robsteve Posted September 4, 2007 Share #1 Posted September 4, 2007 Advertisement (gone after registration) I ordered a WATE as my 30% off early adopter lens. It has not arrived yet. I was wondering if anybody has heard the status on WATE deliveries. Robert
Advertisement Posted September 4, 2007 Posted September 4, 2007 Hi robsteve, Take a look here Discounted WATE deliveries?. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
marknorton Posted September 4, 2007 Share #2 Posted September 4, 2007 Did you order late? I received mine in February. It does seem Leica are still struggling with backlog but given the recent price rise, it must be worth hanging in there. I've finally fitted a Leica 49mm to my WATE filter adapter (after leaving two of them on the top of my car) and all is well. Leica must be looking forward to the day when the last 30% lens is delivered and surely they will want at some point to fulfill filter deliveries from closer to their destination. I feel sure Leica UK are running scared that they might actually have to do some work.
robsteve Posted September 4, 2007 Author Share #3 Posted September 4, 2007 I ordered it a week or so before the deadline. Robert
Guest Posted September 4, 2007 Share #4 Posted September 4, 2007 Hello Robert I ordered mine in January and after about three months rang them direct ( the number is on your confirmation of order which you should have recieved after ordering your 30% discount lens) The person in the department was very efficient and was able to confirm I would recieve my lens in 4 weeks which I did. robsteve Posted September 15, 2007 Author Share #10 Posted September 15, 2007 Earlier in the week I noticed the charge on my credit card. After calling Leica, I got the tracking number. My wate should be here Monday. I suspect a batch came into NJ this week and they shipped them out to the dealers and discount offer people on Wednesday. AGeoJO Posted September 15, 2007 Share #11 Posted September 15, 2007 Robert, I noticed the charge on my credit card early last week by Tuesday or so and the WATE arrived on Thursday. Yours should be there very, very soon .
Hacker Posted September 15, 2007 Share #12 Posted September 15, 2007 What is the dscounted price roughyl? I have seen the WATE sold new with the VF from $3.8k to $5.5k. The price difference is huge!
robsteve Posted September 15, 2007 Author Share #13 Posted September 15, 2007 I am in Canada, so was priced on the VAT (HST) included European list, 2,450 Euros. I think the US price was $2,739 USD. This is the lens and viewfinder combo pricing. Robert
robsteve Posted September 17, 2007 Author Share #14 Posted September 17, 2007 My WATE arrived this morning. After making a few test shots, I am impressed with its quality. It came with the large universal finder, which is large, but an excellent finder. The only problem I noticed is there is no bubble in the bubble level. Anybody else have this problem? carstenw Posted September 17, 2007 Share #17 Posted September 17, 2007 Rob, are you looking down on it or through it? It should be there when you look through the finder, below the framelines. Careful not to cover the little green window at the top, or it won't get any light and you can't see it.
Guest guy_mancuso Posted September 17, 2007 Share #18 Posted September 17, 2007 Robert like to hear your thoughts on the WATE. i really enjoy mine

robsteve Posted September 17, 2007 Author Share #20 Posted September 17, 2007 I am back from abrief drive to find something to shoot. While looking at my pictures, I realized the WATE requires careful attention to setting the proper focal length in the M8 menu. I think a couple of my missmatches were my fault, while others were from the M8 powering up and defaulting to 18mm unless you change it. In some cases I am just powering the camera while bringing it up to my eye and missing the WATE menu selection prompt. If the moderators will allow some leeway, here are a couple pictures. This first one is at the 21mm setting and probably f8. Here is one where I set the menu to 16mm, but forgot to change the lens! The lens was probably on 21mm. This one I had both the lens and the camera at 16mm. Once again, a mismatch. I had the lens on 16mm but had turned off the camera and when it turned on, the camera went back to 18mm. Other than the complexity of changing the camera to match the lens focal length, the WATE seems to be an excellent lens with great sharpness, contrast, and colour.
