There are other posts about this, but the summary is the black chrome is a very tough finish and doesn't wear much at all. If it does wear through or chip, you will not see the brass but rather a white-ish color that (IIRC) is the film that binds the black chrome to the brass. The most common wear you see in the black chrome looks like darker shades of the same black. Personally I like the black chrome quite a bit since it gives the surface a matte look that has excellent grip while still having a nice feel to it.

If you want a finish that wears beautifully to the brass, you want the M10-R Black Paint edition.
