fumigatus Posted October 29, 2021 Share #1  Posted October 29, 2021 Advertisement (gone after registration) Edvard Munch is the most famous painter from Norway (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Edvard_Munch). Norwegians are so proud of him, they recently built a new museum only for his work. One of the most debated buildings in the nation at the moment. Most people think đ€ź. war Posted October 29, 2021 Share #5  Posted October 29, 2021 Your photo is well done.  One criticism though if you'll allow me.......Because you did not straighten the right vertical edge of the building, it exaggerates the appearance that the building is leaning. This is my criticism of the building as well.  When viewed from other than perpendicularly to the faces of the building,  the geometry of the top sloped stories makes it appear that the building is toppling. It's probably the main source of the controversy.  Detractors should consider though that Edvard Munch's Expressionism was not without a great deal of controversy in his day. Thanks for posting Juan Herreros' competition winner. I think the new museum is a fine addition to the waterfront.
NigelG Posted October 29, 2021 Share #6  Posted October 29, 2021 (edited) Well Iâve read in detail the architectâs design process / response to the brief but I still think itâs hideous - and Iâm an Architect! The Guardian had a good piece about it âmaking you want to screamâ which was a bit cute as it fundamentally mis-interprets Munchâs most famous work which is not a screaming figure at all but a figure hearing a scream. Sadly one of my biggest âtake-awaysâ from the piece was that it cost ÂŁ235m / âŹ278m / $320m... Edited October 29, 2021 by NigelG
NigelG Posted October 29, 2021 Share #7  Posted October 29, 2021 Advertisement (gone after registration) Cross-posting with âwarâ - I also think the viewpoint / photo exaggerates the âleanâ but it does seem to me to have a âloomingâ quality notwithstanding the perspective. Off to read my Munch monographs and will reserve judgement until I get to see it âin the fleshâ as it were. The really good recent Nikolai Astrup exhibition I saw at the Clark Institute in Williamstown  was similarly insterested in the psychological pictorial representation of Norwegian life/custom/landscape...
fumigatus Posted October 29, 2021 Author Share #8  Posted October 29, 2021 Thank you for all comments. Interesting, I appreciate it. To be honest, this is not an image I put too much effort in. As you can see, the light wasnât particularly good, and I was at work just shooting as I passed. Shot with a Q2 (28mm summicron). And for sure using the «horizontal lines» in the viewfinder. So the image is not tilted (look at the distant building to the left). War: Do you still think I should straighten it up? (Criticism is welcome btw!). How? I use autocorrect distortion when editing, but thats all.
war Posted October 30, 2021 Share #9  Posted October 30, 2021 I use the Q2 as well. Shot this close at 28mm I'm not sure it could be straightened without loosing some of the bottom left the side. it would definitely be improved if you could do it. The left looks good, the center is spot on and right of that it starts loosing the vertical and is pronounced on the far right.  I'm not familiar with autocorrect distortion,  I use Lightroom's tool for getting the verticals plumb.  I still think it's a good photo.
