stuny Posted October 29, 2021 Share #3 Posted October 29, 2021 Lovely. After the F4, which was originally a Navy a/c, USAF wanted the next air superiority a/c to be USAF, and stood behind the F15 Eagle's development. Meanwhile, the Navy had Grumman take its F14 Tomcat, strip out all the bits that made it carrier based (reducing the a/c weight significantly) and put new engines in it for a flyoff with the F15. USAF would only allow the earlier f14 to fly against their baby. On paper, the revised F14 would have outperformed the F15. Egos.
