On page 132 of the Q2 manual it says that you can use this function to switch on the camera remotely to take photos/videos even if the camera has been switched off by the main switch, provided Bluetooth is enabled. The manual cautions about using this because if someone else’s phone has been paired to your camera, they could switch it on and take pictures (presumably only if they were within Bluetooth range). It also warns that it uses a lot of battery, possibly because the camera is only pretending to be switched off but is secretly on and looking for Bluetooth connections!

I suppose it might be useful if you have the camera on a tripod and you want to wake from standby but waking from switched off seems strange, or maybe that’s just me.

The remote turn on is also useful when I am traveling if I want to share a picture.  I generally process my pictures at home on the computer but occasionally I want to share a quick preview.  With the camera in the bag on my shoulder, or under the table I can pull out my phone and open the Fotos app.  I can then upload a thumbnail of a photo, tweak it and send it as a text.  I do this without taking out, and turning on the camera. With a tablet you can do more significant processing but usually I do this just for a quick share.

Hey,

last week I was shooting and traveling at the same time. And while I was in the car and the camera was in the trunk

I could connect to the camera with the app and see the pictures. I could make a quick selection and send it to a client

without even touching the camera.

And sometimes I don't remember where I put the camera. If you can start it up remotely it lights up and you can find it!

Just like calling your phone if you lost control over it.

Thats when I was very happy to have the feature.

Do you need it?

No...

Its just convenient...

kind regards

Peter
