Advertisement Posted October 31, 2021 Posted October 31, 2021 Hi andybarton, Take a look here Editing Q2 files in LR is glacial!... I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
Stuart Richardson Posted November 19, 2021 Share #22 Posted November 19, 2021 (edited) The computer is getting a bit long in the tooth for 50mp files, but more than anything I think it is the RAM. 8GB is not a lot for a program like Lightroom with big files. If you do not want to update the computer (understandable), try buying 32gb or more from OWC. They have ready to go kits with instructions, and it is really not bad to upgrade it. Making sure you have free space (at least 25% of the drive is probably best) is also important. If you do not have enough free space, the entire computer can slow. I had a really bad printing issue where prints just would not send to the printer. I eventually figured it out that there was not enough space left on the drive to render the print and send it to the printer. I often make big prints from film scans, and the prints are really large as they are sent to the printer, so you need a bunch of space to account for it. All that said, the M1 revolution is apparently just that. It has been a very long time since a generation of Apple computers has been so much faster than the last gen. Even a Mac Mini M1 can outperform some of the fastest Macs of the Intel generation, especially for CPU heavy tasks. viramati Posted November 19, 2021 Share #23 Posted November 19, 2021 Just received the new MacBook Pro 16" with the M1 max chip and wow is it fast. I upgraded basically because my 2019 intel MacBook Pro was really struggling with the Q2 files and sounded lick a helicopter trying to take off
