Hi all;

I own an M10-R and several M lenses. I already own a Leica 21mm F/3.8 SEM lens and was wondering (besides AF) what I would gain (if anything?) if I bought a Sigma 24mm f/2 DG DN lens?

They would both yield a ~ 33-36mm FF equivalent. I also own a TL 18mm as well as an 18-56 zoom lenses which are native to the CL.

Comments?

Thanks!

-Brad

Oh, so just to be clear, I'm looking to compare the  Leica 21mm F/3.8 SEM lens (which I already own) with the potential purchase of a Sigma 24mm f/2 DG DN lens on my Leica CL Digital

Since you have the 21 go with that, just doesn't have a wide fstop. You need the M to L(T) adapter. I tried using a 25 Canon f3.5 when I first had the CL I did find it too slow. I bought a used Summicron 23, which was my favorite lens on the CL until I bought the 11-23 last year. I know the Sigma is less expensive but the 23 is a nice small lens on the CL. If I want a small package I use the 23.

For me, the obvious choice would be the Summicron-TL 23 f/2. It's a fast compact lens with autofocus, and it produces great images on the CL--much better than the 18-TL. If you are willing to sell the 21 f/3.8, that would help fund the purchase.

Are you actually using the 21mm F/3.8 SEM with your CL? I cannot really see what you would gain from using this lens instead of the 18-56 VE at 21mm. The maximum aperture should be about the same. You almost gain two stops with the Sigma lens, but this is probably not too important for you because you are considering the slower lens as well. Unless you also have other L-mount cameras, I would hesitate to buy more L-mount lenses for the CL given the unknown future of the system. Just use the 18-56 VE. From what I have read, it is excellent.
