Sunpak 383 Super flash for Digilux 2?

I know this has probably been covered before but does anyone have experience using the Sunpak 383 super on the Digilux 2? I know it's not dedicated but that's no problem for me and I'm looking for an economical flash with bounce and swivel and plenty of power - this one would seem to do the trick and according to the distributor it will not harm my camera. Any info from other members is appreciated, or suggestions on another flash.

Thanks,

Gus

Gus, welcome to the LUF-wafflers.

There was a specific warning in both the D2 and LC1 user guides about the voltages of external flashes, that can damage the D2.

The manuals stated, Both incorrect polarities and higher than expected voltages have been known to cause damage.

Therefore I would suggest you stick to the Flash units recommended in the manual, or units that other users in this forum have had success with.

I use a Metz 40MZ-3i with the required D2 specific 3502-Mod4 hot-shoe with terrific success on my D2.

But as I've stated many times before, don't under estimate how good the in-built D2 flash is.

Thanks Dugby, Sean and Krabat for your quick responses. Sean - I have ordered a Wein SSHSHS and plan, at least for now to use it with my old Sunpak 411 flash. Thanks again all - and yes dugby, the built in flash is fantastic and I've taken many nice shots with it bounced, but it's not enough power for the task at hand on occasion.

Hi Gus,

I'm not sure how you like to use flash but my method would be to plug a coiled flash connector cord into the Wein and then hold the flash in my left hand so that I could bounce it or fire it directly but off-axis.

Cheers,

Sean
