Acalg Posted October 16, 2021 Share #1 Posted October 16, 2021 Advertisement (gone after registration) Hi Folks, I have noticed recently that my 18-56 has quite a bit of lateral play in the barrel, particularly when fully extended. Wondering if anyone else has experienced this? Thanks!

wda Posted October 16, 2021 Share #2 Posted October 16, 2021 No. Did you buy it new? Any unexpired warranty?
Acalg Posted October 16, 2021 Author Share #3 Posted October 16, 2021 Hi David, yes, I bought it new several years ago so unfortunately no warranty remaining.
wda Posted October 16, 2021 Share #4 Posted October 16, 2021 That is a pity. Any clues as to the cause? I cannot recall any similar reports.
Acalg Posted October 16, 2021 Author Share #5 Posted October 16, 2021 No cause that I am aware of David. I would normally have an expectation that it would be caused by a drop or bang when the lens was fully extended but have no memory of that happening. I suppose a possible wear and tear issue from normal use but that seems less likely.
wda Posted October 16, 2021 Share #6 Posted October 16, 2021 If you know that the slackness is causing unsatisfactory optical performance, I believe you should consider sending the lens to your local Leica customer support for investigation. Discernible slackness might deplete resale value of the lens even if optical performance is satisfactory. It is your value judgement.
Acalg Posted October 17, 2021 Author Share #7 Posted October 17, 2021 Advertisement (gone after registration) Yes, good advice David. I'll have it checked out. Thanks.
RickP Posted October 17, 2021 Share #8 Posted October 17, 2021 I have had several copies of the 18-56 .. they both had this issue to a similar, albeit a slight degree. It was never and issue with the optical performance, I just think that tolerances with plastic constuction are difficult to maintain..even for Leica. I am aware that they wanted to keep these lenses light weight. However, due to the plastic parts, the build quality never impressed me. Rick
