Pick your poison. Better reach or up to 2 stops faster.

28-70 is not a contender to substitute for the 24-90 - if 24-90 is what you want. There's plenty of options in a narrow FL range, but I need both 24 and 90. It allows me to do scenes, groups and portraits at events with just one lens.

Works the other way around too, because the 24-90 is not a substitute if you need constant f2. Not saying one is better than the other, these are two different lenses, but BOTH are unique zooms in the wide to tele range

Of course - neither are contenders to replace the other.

Fair enough 🙂

28-70mm zoom at a bright constant f2 is an achievement. This is an area Canon did well so they deserve the credit.

I am unsure about the performance though. When i had the EF 24-70 f2.8 paired with the 1D2 and 5D in the early 2000s, the lens was so so. The 24-90 vario elmarit is one of the sharper (or sharpest) zooms i have used wide open.

But that was over 20 years ago!

I haven't used the 28-70, but the sample images do look impressive.

If you're into pixel peeping, there's some full size brick wall on Ken Rockwell's
