Esoteric tidbits unboxing my new MP this evening

I have been using the M system a few years now. My most regretful 'sell' was my a la carte chrome M7 with MP bits, reduced framelines and 0.85.... but, we live and learn. No return.

It is in part what prompted me to buy a brand new MP black paint. It arrived today. It was in part a purchase / note to self - not to sell a film camera you buy new. We have this privilege today, but for how much longer? So, it was about allaying seller's remorse. It was also in part because my dealer mentioned that it is rumoured that Leica may discontinue the MP (but not the M-A) because of future meter part supply issues. (Could be entirely unsubstantiated. Frankly I'd be delighted if Leica continue the MP for years and years, but this - however slim a possibility, I'll admit, did prompt some FOMO). Finally, I bought it (new) because I have the silver chrome one (bought used), and want a pair to run two film stocks simultaneously. Finally, finally, and mostly because I wanted it (so penultimate point is clearly gross rationalisation! But I share anyway, because I'm sure we have all been there on these things). 😁

Tidbit 1 - the leatherette is the type you see on Leica's website, which is more M3-like than the type Leica used when the MP was a new product almost 20 years ago. That one looked almost plastic/sandpaper like, for want of a better description - Google the black paint MP and the image results will mostly show this older 'thinner' leatherette. The leatherette on my new MP seems the same as the type on my M10-P. 

Tidbit 2 - the packaging today is the same as the M10 series digital cameras - grey inner box upper, with the body inside; two little cardboard drawers below. Top one with papers - same as digital; bottom one with a battery (Varta CR1/3N), the strap, and a second battery cover with groove for opening with a coin, etc. (The one that was already in the camera - with the M10 leatherette - worked fine with the battery so I am keeping the grooved one in the box). 

That's it. Long may Leica continue to make these cameras!

OK... I've now read the last 25 pages or so of the 'I love my MP' thread. Great stuff there and clearly no revelations revealed by me in this thread here. 

But, it seems there are some other little differences between my silver MP 292xxxx and my black paint MP 563xxxx, other than colour. I'll take some photos soon and post on that thread.
