It would be interesting to try one out in direct comparison to my trusty old 40mm f1.4 Voigtlander Nokton. I've sort-of been tempted by the regular Summicron version (or, for that matter, the Rokkor) but prices for good ones seem to have doubled in the last year or so which makes me think I've missed that particular boat. It's not as if I really need another 40 but, still, nice little lenses all the same. Philip. Philip, any time you are in Oxford, let me know and I will happily supply the Elmarit for comparing with the Voigtlander.

That's an extremely kind offer, M9reno, and one which is greatly appreciated and for which I thank you! I might very well take you up on the suggestion. Oddly enough I've been in - or around - Oxford a handful of times over the last few weeks so although there are no definite plans in place to return anytime soon things do seem to have a habit of changing at the last minute. Thank you again. I would love to have the chance of trying it out. Philip.

I’ve had mine for some years, bought when prices were quite reasonable. Nice compact system with the CL. The 40 is also good for when I really can’t decide whether I want a 35 or 50 🙄. One learns to guesstimate where the frame lines would be using it on M cameras.

The 40 Voigt. was bought to use as a 50mm (actually 53mm) on my first digi-M which, being an M8.2, had the 1.33x sensor crop factor. When I went full-frame I realised how much I loved the 40! Over the years I've learned how to visualise the extra area the lens gives over a 50 - which is just as well as my M-D Typ-262 doesn't have a screen...
