The lock on the base plate feels "scratchy" on the last quarter turn as it latches on to the body.  It feels like it is rubbing against something.

I've taken the lock apart and I can't see anything that is obviously wrong.  I've also checked that the teaching mechanism is not scraping against the body of the camera, but everything seems fine.

Has anyone else experienced this problem?

Should I lubricate the washers that make up the mechanism?

Already done a search but couldn't find anything online.

If the base plate closes enough, I would not worry.

Just had a look on my wife's M8 which has the grip-base-plate positively locked, nothing can be 'destroyed' in her M8 if the locking feels scratchy.

Second thought...

M8 lock is metal, and the base lock is metal, maybe a very small 'bent' at the locking mechanism can cure that.
