...i saw a new summarit 75mm f2.5 on discount .......

That is a rare discovery. I guess it will not be on sale for long.

I have also used mine on my Full-frame MP240 where it performs beautifully. Close focusing has never been an issue for me. Marginal cropping gives a more than satisfactory result. The M8 has a surprisingly good sensor as I discovered recently, when revisiting some older files.

The lens is priced at a premium. I am surprised. Perhaps a resurgence in interest in the lens has prompted a higher than expected price.

I have the 35 and 50 f/2.5 Summarits. I really like them and have wanted to add the 75, but all the Summarits seem to have been creeping up in price since the f/2.4 version was discontinued a while back.

To the OP’s question: if you can find a Summarit 35 for €1000, I agree with the others recommending it - it produces stunning images. I also have the Voigtlander 35 f/1.4 II and it’s also excellent, especially considering it’s relative price. The Color-Skopar 35 f/2.5 is good, as well, and the lowest price of the three - I think my mint used one, when I bought it, was only like €300.

🥰

Summarit-M 2.5/35 and 50mm can be nice companions of older M2 too

They look good and very easy&handy to use

I have the biggest (35mm Distagon) and the smallest (Color skopar). I love both.

Color Skopar for zone focussing and street.

Distagon for, low light, optical excellence and portraits.

Whats your use case as the lenses youre considering all render lovely but for different applications. From your list sharpest would arguably be the zeiss f1.4, followed by the the ultron f1.7 .The summarit and zeiss bigon c would be ideal if you wanted a compact compromise.

But imho id suggest the ultron f1.7 ltm. It renders sharp but not clinical, and has a beautiful character to the images it produces, which would compliment your m8 well.

Hi everyone,

I'm the happy owner of a Leica M8 which is my first step in the Leica world.
I've read a few 35mm threads and I'm looking for a recommandation with my criterias:

- 35mm (so I can have the equivalent of a 50mm on my M8)
- modern look: I tend to use more and more my 28mm Zeiss Biogon which I've come to enjoy more than I thought
[..]

Happy to hear any thoughts or feedback if you have some of these or others you'd recommend!

Thanks,

Vincent

If you already have a 28mm, maybe you could consider looking for a 50mm to supplement it instead of a 35mm? On the M8, 28mm becomes a 37mm. The 35mm would become a 46mm, fairly close. A 50mm would become a 66mm, that would provide a more significant difference... And sub $1000 used, you have a lot of choices: Leica (Summicron or Summarit), Zeiss (Planar), Voigtlander (APO or Nocton)....
