Advertisement Posted August 9, 2021 Posted August 9, 2021 Hi Gobert, Take a look here Advice: M6 Titanium or brand new MP. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
Mute-on Posted August 9, 2021 Share #22 Posted August 9, 2021 You made the right choice IMHO. The M6 titanium is really nothing special. It is not solid titanium, and it will very likely need a CLA immediately or at least far sooner than the MP. I think they’re ugly too, but that’s totally subjective of course. MPs are fantastic. Period. Enjoy!

tap360 Posted August 9, 2021 Share #24 Posted August 9, 2021 I have a similar dilemma. I have bought am M4, which I adore. Its not perfect condition, but therefor can happily use it and the shutter sound & winding mechanism is so smooth. I have come across a mint MP for sale from a local dealer - 4 months old with residual warranty. However, it costs £3250, so around 3* what the M4 cost me. is that. fair price? It is tempting though as a long term investment (I will use it for sure too) although presumably will lose some money on it over time. It may be me, but I don't find the mechanism quite as smooth as the M4 Is MP a good buy/price, or should I just keep shooting the M4?
Helge Posted August 9, 2021 Share #25 Posted August 9, 2021 (edited) @tap360 the question is more like „why are you considering an MP in addition to your M4?“ because of something you miss (meter, additional frames,….)? Or you would like to have a camera with warranty? 3900€ seems to be the standard price for used but mint MPs. The 3250£ are equal to 3800€, so not a bad deal, if it is like brand new. Considering the age of that MP and today‘s level of manufacturing costs, the prices for new and used seem reasonable. tap360 Posted August 9, 2021 Share #27 Posted August 9, 2021 Advertisement (gone after registration) yes, it is basically new, but you are split on. I dont NEED it for sure although 28mm frameline would be nice), but have that feeling that one day I will get one...and is it better to grab this deal now that hope for something similar in a few years time when Leica prices will inevitably rise? Classic GAS probably. That said...M-A might be better than M-P

I'm replacing a M10 that got stolen and I've decided to get a film body instead. The two options I've narrowed it down to are: M6 Titanium. $6500aud, comes with a 90mm 2.8 titanium lens. Both are immaculate. No boxes or papers for either unit. No case, straps etc either. It's been owned by a collector. It's the ostrich leather version, and is stunning. The 90mm lens isnt something that I would buy separately, but I'm sure I'd learn to use that focal length (I've shot 85mm on digital a bit) Second option would be a brand new silver MP. $7000aud, retail purchase. Either way I'd be looking for a 35mm or 50mm to go with them too (sadly will be a 3rd party lens). Looking for thoughts / opinions on the better buy please! First off I'm sorry to hear that your M10 was stolen .... 🤬 5 hours ago, Aussierob78 said: I'm gonna go with the MP. I'm excited about having something new that's mine, having the complete kit in the box and knowing that it's going to most likely outlive me. Thanks for the replies everyone! Well done on getting an MP. You mentioned that you'll have to settle for a 3rd party lens. A couple of questions (and not any of my business) BUT Did you lose any lenses with the M10? Insurance payout? Welcome to The Leica Forums

The meter is useful but not essential if you are used to the M4.

MP/M-A are not for same people or same user (same type of metering ! ), in my view.

tap360 Posted August 9, 2021 Share #33 Posted August 9, 2021 Thanks. I have just sold my M10 and was thinking of getting an SL...but now tempted by this MP and maybe get an M9 or M240 to satisfy digital need. Only for personal use. It sounds like, if I needed to, I could likely always sell it for similar money?

a.noctilux Posted August 9, 2021 Share #35 Posted August 9, 2021 As side note, M4 user for so long, when I use MP/M-A, I wanted faster rewind adding the 'lever-rewind' which hurt my fingers. In this aspect, M4 is much better than MP/M-A, with rewind lever and plastic wind-on lever.

That is why, in spite of the M-A/MP improvements, I still prefer my M6TTL and M7 (as an added plus, the shutter dial matches my M10-D).
tap360 Posted August 9, 2021 Share #37 Posted August 9, 2021 I did notice my M4 has a much smoother action, a much sweeter sound. It may just be the MP is so new...it needs using!!
a.noctilux Posted August 9, 2021 Share #38 Posted August 9, 2021 Even with the add-on rewind lever, here we can see that the device is very nice as usual with Leica Here with my ex MP - VF 0.85 happy user by then

Anyway when in use those small differences are not photographically important...

In order to see those lines you must stick your eyeball to the eyepiece, then move your eye around. It's a big PITA. If I were a 28 mm user I would probably get an external viewfinder. 40 minutes ago, a.noctilux said: I had for some time, MP along M-A, plus M4 bet which one I grabbed ? easy with a lens 😉 That's an awesome collection. 😍 Edited August 9, 2021 by Vlad Soare
