maxfairclough Posted August 3, 2021 Share #1 Posted August 3, 2021 Advertisement (gone after registration) Hey guys and girls - This afternoon I noticed my Leica MP had a red battery illuminated in the rangefinder. Never seen it before. The manual says this is a "battery warning" but cannot locate what exactly that means. The viewfinder is bright so can't imagine that means the batteries are low. Or does it? My last set of batteries lasted 16 months. This has only been in there for 3 months. Maybe I had the shutter button compressed while it was in my bag and the batteries have sunk. Does anyone know what it means?

a.noctilux Posted August 3, 2021 Share #2 Posted August 3, 2021 (edited) Hello Max, The warning is there when the MP detects that the battery voltage has lower than specified or flowing current slow. I had the warning when I used in very cold weather for example. Then when returning in warmer place, the MP battery warning disappeared. Anyway, it's good idea to always carry a set of new batteries (silver oxide or lithium which has long life/storage). The last few days in Melbourne have been colder than usual. Especially today it was chilly outside. I will try on a warmer day and see if anything changes. I appreciate that, thank you!
a.noctilux Posted August 3, 2021 Share #4 Posted August 3, 2021 Thanks for the feed back. Old story for me now, as for some years I used the MP without battery when it's cold. I had in my warm pocket one lightmeter (and some films keeping warm to easy load) that I used when I needed.
Chuck Albertson Posted August 8, 2021 Share #5 Posted August 8, 2021 The batts don't have any effect on the MP viewfinder. It's "powered" by ambient light.

We are talking about the battery-like ( 🍼 ) symbol, Chuck. Normally not lit when the MP's battery has enough power.
