TL2: quick battery related question

I store my cameras with SD card and battery removed.  As I have several cameras, some don't get used regularly.  I noticed that picking up my TL2 after some time, at least one (JPG instead of DNG I set to default) but not all the settings reset.  All other custom settings remain in memory.  Language, time and date also reset to factory settings.   Should I periodically insert the battery to maintain custom settings?

I had my CL crash, took the battery out to send it to Leica. The next morning, I decided toput a fresh battery back in for one last try. It started up with default settings. Just applied a user profile and it has been working since. I just thought that after a certain time with the battery out, the camera does a reset.
