I am in discussion with Leica through our NZ Leica rep regarding optimizing a lens with my M cameras. This is the reply they received: ‘They (Leica Germany) advised that it is always recommended to optimize all lenses to your camera. It is possible that if they will optimize your camera with only the 50mm lux, some other lenses will not focus perfectly on the camera anymore and needed to be optimized too’ When Leica Service calibrates M cameras and lenses, the general procedure is to calibrate each independently to an established standard; the RF to match its target, and the lens(es) to their established standard. The reason Leica Service likes to ask customers to send in body and lenses together (as Jaap notes) is to avoid back and forth shipments and to eliminate guesswork. In the process, Leica can also inspect for other issues. Jeff

Confirming what has be suggested in previous posts, I have now received an answer (in red) from Leica. ‘Is it recommended I optimize the three lenses for both cameras? Yes, we definitely recommend to optimize all lenses with both cameras’.
Harvard Kiwi Posted August 19, 2021 Share #23 Posted August 19, 2021 @BlackBarn Who is the Leica NZ rep? Also, after my warranty expires, do you know anyone who can do CLAs quicker than Leica? I've read of some other people who are able to do this overseas and who apparently do a good job but am curious as to whether there there is someone downunder. It's a question for future reference. Hopefully, I'll also have a Monochrom body by then so the wait won't be too devastating.

To my experience, use a long lenses, e.g. 90mm, to calibrate is more effective. Don't use wide angle lenses. Sigh. Again with the 10 year old post about how to use a hand drawn diagram to calibrate the rangefinder? In 2021 virtually all instruction is communicated through You Tube videos. Nobody is looking at pen and ink diagrams to learn how to change the oil in their car, pose a model, play guitar, cook a meal or anything else. Until someone who has the knowledge of how to do the calibration takes the time to create a video on the topic, I suggest this board just respond, "Rangefinder calibration is an extremely precise process with little to no documentation available. If you suspect your camera is out of calibration it is best to send it to Leica or DAG for repair."
