M Monochrom (typ 246) Serial Number Invalid

Hi

Just purchased a Monochrom 246 ( used obviously ) and was trying to add the body to my Leica page - I was given a whole range of “special editions” and which we I chose came back Invalid.  I know that there was a list of cameras by serial number ( Erwin Putz ?? ) but it doesn’t seem to cover digital bodies.  Is there a list where I can check the serial number to the model type to ensure it’s real and not a fake?

If you mean the register of your product on the Leica site try emailing the help desk who are quite proactive. I had this problem with a couple of lenses and one film M in finding the right category/ model and they helped out almost by return.

What it gives is a list of all the special editions ( rather a lot I thought but no bulk standard Monochrom ( Typ 246 )

If you haven't already tried, you should also be able to search by item number, which is 10930.

I had issues registering brand new items that showed up as "serial number doesn't exist." I contacted Leica, who told me to wait a couple of days as they reach out to someone in Germany, and emailed me back saying "give it another try." So I did. And it worked.

Paul, have you heard of fake Leica M ?

I can not imagine fake M(typ 246), I have one and it's so nice and special that I wonder who can fake it.

Just use the M246 happily, don't worry.

Is there a benefit to registering a product that is out of warranty? Just curious as I have a 90mm elmarit and m2 & m6 unregistered with Leica, I registered my newer gear
