ocvlvs Posted July 9, 2021 Share #1  Posted July 9, 2021 Advertisement (gone after registration) Greetings, I am leaning toward using the video feature on the Leica CL more and wanted to ask if there is a better way to capture audio with an external mic. My question is, which external mics are compatible with the Leica CL?  Thanks

jaapv Posted July 10, 2021 Share #2 Â Posted July 10, 2021 None - as there is no way to plug it in.
M.piras Posted July 10, 2021 Share #3  Posted July 10, 2021 Actually you can buy an external recorder such as Zoom h6 or the smaller zoom h2n and then sync the audio in post production wich is the actual solution in cinema productions. Da Vinci is a wonderful free software to do these stuffs

MDCT Posted July 10, 2021 Share #5 Â Posted July 10, 2021 (edited) You could also get a good external small shotgun mic and use your phone as a decent recorder. The converters are certainly good enough for most things and there are a ton of apps that work really well. I use an IPhone app called Audioshare. It records hi-res files and can share to any of the video apps out there. I find it more flexible and faster than trying to use a dedicated recorder. You can share the files directly to your cloud account and download them quickly for post. Just use a clapper fast sync in post. There are ton of good options for external mics. M.piras Posted July 10, 2021 Share #6  Posted July 10, 2021 Iphone or other smart phones do not have enough quality in audio recording. If you want to produce a decent audio you need at least 96KHz 24 bit. Then zoom recorders (but also tascam) will let you record multitrack and you can add microphones to have more realistic 3d sound (mandatory if you want to include loseless and Dolby Atmos (now requested by most professional producer  platforms). If you really want to use iPhone or ipad you need a audio Sound card , specific software (wavelab style) and obviously mics
MDCT Posted July 11, 2021 Share #7  Posted July 11, 2021 Advertisement (gone after registration) Plenty of folks do real work using the iPhone converters. If you are doing content for YouTube or other basic streaming service guess what? Your content has a real high chance of being consumed on an iPhone. If you are recording classical music I wouldn’t be using the phones converters but I also wouldn’t be using the Zoom recorders converters. The right tool for the right job. The iPhone does a decent job of capturing audio in uncompressed formats. You can do 96k if you use external converters. It literally uses the same internal 64 bit resolution core audio as the Mac laptops. I would be looking at spending the money on the right microphone solution more than worrying about sample rates. M.piras Posted July 11, 2021 Share #8  Posted July 11, 2021 64bit coedec in mac such iphones such android such whatever “standard” is just software D/D, no loseless. On serious audiocard or A/D converter (Zoom is only a cheap example, is plenty of brands doing it more seriously and profeaaionally) it is demanded to Real chip doing physical conversion and believe the difference is quite large and also on youtube rhe real content creator will avoid iphone, also for video. anyways is not the right place and is becoming out  of topic so, in a free world anyone use whatevere he wants also cinese a/d converter or “irig” is fine.
