compman10 Posted July 5, 2021 Share #1 Posted July 5, 2021 Advertisement (gone after registration) Hi, I just purchased a used Leica S Typ 006 from a Leica dealer and they sent it in to Leica for a sensor replacement. I just was wondering if anyone knew the answers to the following questions: Did Leica change the coverglass used in the replacement sensors? I'm wondering if I need to be conscientious about the amount of humidity I expose the replaced sensor to. Is there a way to access the Service Menu like on an M9? I would like to see the shutter count and CCD ID if possible.

The renewed sensor should be as humidity-resistant as other sensors. #2:

My concern with the sensor coverglass isn't with sealing, but whether or not the same corrosion-prone glass is used. What Leica calls corrosion is actually crystal formation when the glass is exposed to humidity. If the camera is left in a humid environment, crystals will form over time. I'm wondering if they used a more corrosion-resistant coverglass in the replacement sensors. Nick

No issues at all since it was done about two years ago. The color signature of the 6 IMHO is so special I want to hold on to it as long as possible.
davidmknoble Posted July 11, 2021 Share #6 Posted July 11, 2021 Leica seemed to figure this whole issue out with the M9 corrosion. I would suggest that no sensor is completely sealed from too much humidity and I use a humidity cabinet and bring along reusable dry canisters when in the field. I have used my S007 at the coast on the beach for about 5 years with no problems, but I always make sure things are clean and dry completely (I know it is a CMOS and not a CCD). I would expect a long life from your S006 replacement and expect the sensor cover is doing its job.
