That's great info @adan, thanks .

I have MD-262 as my only M (currently), so I still have to work around that (you can't code lenses in the menu on MD-262 since there is no menu).

But this is great insight for others and for myself when I get an M with a screen (or at least a menu) sometime 

Side-note:  I kinda like how the MD-262 is so true to the film experience that I have even this 'issue' (more like a minor inconvenience) of not knowing the lens , ha

Some years ago, when I had 'new M9', I wanted to have coded most of my lenses.

As I have some non codable or too old (LTM types) and still wanted to use them on M9, so I tried out easily with lenses which codable and on the manual list.

What I found helped me not to send them for coding, even if some are codable.

Only some vignetting corrections(when coded) on wide lenses which for that I found this is part of the lens character.

 

Now with thousands of non coded lenses pictures later, I don't bother for coding/non coding lenses anymore.

One less thing to bother and let the lens subtle characters (I learned to know for each lens) operate in film use or sensor.

Yes I don't mind the idea of that at all.  My possible coding is mostly for cataloguing which lens was used, for future reference .  How do you do that for your digital photos @a.noctilux, if you do ?  Mine at this point (film and digital) needs to be based on memory

Ah memory ...

I'm of the old generation of notebook (and a pencil which always writes) and when time permits, one of those vocal recorder,

in this case contents to be later on written on paper to have something easy to find if required (rarely) .

With time&practices, I know which is important or not to record so this is individual, not duplicable for somebody else.

I'm happy also NOT to remember, my wife has always been otherwise (she tries to remember something so old and not important for me).

 

I tend to live in present time.

I must admit I kind of like the idea of less things to do / info to know.  Suits the style of MD shooting also so I'm not that motivated at this point to code them  

Maybe a note in the phone for a memorable shot, or of a session shooting with a particular lens .  That's what I usually do with film
