Maybe try to import them separately... video files are much larger so give them time to copy properly especially if you do this on a slow hard-drive on via an average SD card or SD card reader.

Playback will be choppy too because of the nature of the files. Open them with VLC if they are .MOV files... and better still convert them to AppleProRes for superb playback/edit performance on Mac (plus archival compatibility) or another form using a free software like Handbrake (handbrake doesnt transcode to AppleProRes but Media encoder or Kyno will).

Some video format are not supported natively and can't be played in apple apps. it is possible that they have been copied and you can't open them.

try using a software like Kyno

many people use a slow card reader , as files get bigger I would suggest getting fast cards and card readers. I use ProGrade 256GB cards on my system and they are fast combined with a Prograde dual SD card reader.

I cannot import videos via card reader to my iMac from my sl2s even though photos are imported properly and it appears that the videos are also being slowly imported but after  ejecting the SD card only photos are shown in the library, any ideas?

I appreciate your input!

What do you mean by "in the library" - I can copy photos and video from the SD card onto my Mac just fine.

I mean in my photos library where I was able until recently to import both photos and videos from my Fuji xh1 as well as my Leica SL but now I am unable to import videos from either camera and I’m using the same sandisc extreme pro SD cards and same card reader!Photos are imported fine from both Fuji and my new sl2s!

Yes I am and just successfully imported video from my Fuji and trying to import again from thesl2s and so far I’m getting a message:some items cannot be added to your photo library because they maybe an unrecognizable file format or the file may not contain valid data ; it is also taking a very long time on my Mac to “load” a very brief video on a sandisc extreme pro fast card.Still waiting to load for the second time and see what happens.Thank you!

Apple photos was originally designed for consumer cameras managing photos  I’m surprised it even deals with videos.

But, anyway, what spec is your video?

MOV or MP4 wrapper? 720, 1080, 4K, bitrate, L-log or profile?

Some formats aren’t supported by certain apps.

I am not a Mac person, but I ran into the same issue recently when I gave a friend some ProRes (MOV) files for a project. ProRes/Quicktime is an Apple format, but his Mac didn't recognize them. I believe that he had to transcode them before editing. Perhaps a Mac user can explain.

The files can not be read by the OS, so they don't play in apple's apps. You just need to use an application that can read them. Quicktime is the underling preview application on the Mac and it doesn't open them, that is why you can preview them.

If you are using apple's Photos app, they usually import but are not displayed. Photos app is  a consumer product. You can convert the files with a different application, or use Kyno or DavinciResolveStudio to open them

Thanks for explaining, although I still find Apple's support of their own formats confusing.

I often share files with Mac users, but they are video editors, so they know the tricks. This was for a musician. He has a powerful Mac system, but I guess it's filled with DAWs and other audio software/hardware, rather than video software. I was surprised to get a "there's no files on your disk" message, but he eventually figured it out with the help of search engines.

Thank you all so much,I obviously don’t know the”tricks” so it’s confusing to me.My video specs are mov/4K and I’m also new to videos since I have been shooting stills for years and fully understand it takes more than the manual “instructions “ to do it right as well as practicing!

Again I appreciate your suggestions and explanation !
